I’ve barely written a line of code these past few weeks. Instead, I’ve been concentrating on promoting the various websites I operate and optimizing them for search engines.

In August, revenue from my websites jumped 500% and, while September will also see a revenue increase, it’ll be of magnitudes less. So, I’ve been busy doing things to increase my traffic– ’cause more traffic means more ad clicks and affiliate purchases, and ultimately, that means more money– to try and squeeze every dollar I can out of this month. I’ve been busy forming relationships with other websites in order to obtain back links, started to watch what words and phrases I’m using to try and increase keyword density, and working on making my URLs more meaningful. Although I won’t see any immediate results, I’ll evaluate my traffic in a couple months and see if I can attribute any increases to what I’m doing now.

In any case, last week I discovered a great tool that I’ve been using to monitor my rankings for various keywords in Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Called the Search Engine Keyword Tracker & Keyword Ranking Tool, it is available for use free of charge from Digital Point, and can be used to simultaneously track search engine ranking for a number of websites under a number of keywords.

Check it out. And, as I’ve been told, use it everyday, as everytime you run the update query, it records the new information. This allows you to view graphs of your improving rank!

  • I’ve created the Eh List (http://ehlist.ca/) which just tracks your sites overall stats, not related to any keywords. Check it out if you’re interested.
